Kwame is the Planeteer with the power of Earth! He’s 16 and LeVar Burton did his voice for the cartoon.
Wheeler, whose voice belonged to a man named Joey Dedio, had the ring of Fire. He was 17 years old and hailed from North America / the United States (USA).
Linka was from Russia / The Soviet Union (USSR) and her character was 16 years of age. Her voice was done by Kath Soucie and she had the awesome power of the Wind.
Gi had the power of water. She was 15 years old, from China / Asia, and was voiced by Janice Kwanye.
Ma-Ti is the last of the five Planeteers. He was from Brazil and is 12 years old. He has a pet monkey named Suchi and was voiced by Scott Menville. His power…is the power of heart.
Will the characters in the new coming 2011 / 2012 Captain Planet Movie have these same attributes? Only time will tell when the movie is released or the release date is given. Until then, it’s just speculation. Keep checking here for more information on the upcoming movie!

An announcement was released on July 19th 2011 that Cartoon Network, Don Murphy and Susan Montford (both producers) are currently creating a live-action Captain Planet movie that will be based off of the old, popular Cartoon series — Captain Planet and the Planeteers. It may even contain plot points from the sequel series called The New Adventures of Captain Planet,
There is no set release date yet, but we will let you know immediately when that information is available. We will be sure to post any rumors we come across, as well as leaked information as well.
Currently, there’s no information about what will be changed from the actual cartoon. Will this be a darker version of Captain Planet meant for an older generation? Will the five Planeteer characters from the cartoon — Wheeler, Gi, Kwame, Linka, and Ma-Ti — all be young or will they be old in this version? Will the female Gaia be making an appearance?
All that is known for sure is that the rings of power – Earth, Fire, Wind, Water, and Heart, will take down evil villains such as Hoggish Greedly, Rigger, Looten Plunder, Argos Bleak, Sly Sludge, BP, Duke Nukem, Leadsuit, Verminous Skumm, The Rat Pack, Dr. Blight, MAL, Zarm, Mame Slaughter, and Stalker Slaughter…Or perhaps instead of these well-known villains (some more than others), there may be a brand new villain that has never been encountered before. Only time will tell.
